It’s the beginning of fall and the weather and happenings can’t be beat in our area this time of year. Open the windows and listen to the birds singing in the am for the high is 71 degrees and the low is 56.
My goal was to get out of the house as soon as possible. Skipped the shower post gym because, well I’m spending the day outdoors with 3 boys (2 little humans and 1 medium size dog).
First on the agenda, a hike along Assateague State Park. They have a trail very doable for little legs that tire easily nestled behind the visitor center. It runs along the bay and some of the the golf course for a bit and leads into an open green pasture with a historic farm house.
Milo starts the adventure |
First few steps of the trail and we heard a splash, how exciting! Of course, it was our dog splashing happily into the bay. A little jump off the trail and your in a narrow beach with shallow water. The boys saw crabs, snails, horseshoe crabs and other bay aquatic plants. Back onto the well maintained trail and we found ourselves in a tunnel of trees and pine needle covered ground, talking about colors and photosynthesis. Then we hit some mosquitoes and high tailed it out of there.
Julian chillin with Milo |
Back at the visitor center you can find fresh water fountains and clean bathrooms. We found ourselves surrounded by the nicest people today. Friendly families sharing the news that there were ponies by the beach, petting Milo, and adoring the boys.
We decided, even though it was not the initial plan to drive over the bridge and to the beach where we did see 4 beautiful ponies. We had a quick healthy snack in the car while watching the ponies then headed to the beach.
It was beautiful, the boys played in the sand with friendly kids very close to their age. |
A father of 6-year old twin boys and 2-year old boy brought over a sand crab for the boys to hold. The boys admired shells and played in a tide pool with a cute blond that Julian found very charming. They splashed in the tide pool and ran their fingers and toes through the sand. It was a magical day.
