We know we’re moving. Delaware is nice. It’s beaches are a highlight. We always knew this was a temporary location. We like to reinvent ourselves and make the neighbors think we are in the witness relocation program. That changed when we had kids. We know we have to move. We know the where. Vermont.
It’s just a matter of when and what to do with our stuff. When we moved here we could park two cars in the garage, now its like a corn maze. We had two empty bedrooms before the kids now they’re packed with clothes that I’m not convinced ever fit the little ones. Plus, I have an office that will need to be emptied.
The last thing anyone wants keep moving unused items from house to house. Most of it is too valuable for a yard sale. Especially around us where $5 is the max price for just about everything at a yard sale.
We came up with a way to unload everything in a stress-free somewhat addicting way. We call it Ebay-A-Day.
Everyday we post one item on Ebay. We have lots of stuff and it’s very tempting to just go crazy and post it all in one day, but that would get overwhelming right away. Posting just one thing makes sure you do it right. It’s easy to answer questions from customers. You only have to ship one or two items at a time so it’s only a errand and not a major undertaking.
Another thing happens. You want to make it last. Even if somedays you’re only a making a buck or two you don’t want to kill the streak. Big items will go local only or on craigslist, you’ll be sending DVDs to dudes in Georgia or a grandmom in Washington. Some days you’ll make a couple hundred off something you were ready to toss. We’ve been going close to a month and I’m sure we’ll make it two and maybe three more months. We’re expecting a W-2 from PayPal this year.
Eventually, you’ll win back your rooms and vacations may get paid for.
You’ll also realize the value of the things you paid for and you’ll think twice about buying them again. We’ll update on how many days we go. Try your own Ebay a day and see how long you can last.
Update: So we’re up to about day 60 and we’ve hit $5,000. So, officially the IRS will be joining the party next filing season and we haven’t even hit text books or DVDs
