Karen and I love to travel. I’ve been to all but four of the US states, but since having kids we don’t get too far except for work. As the kids get older I can’t wait to widen our travel scope. Until then day trips are fun, especially if you pretend you’re not a local. This weekend we made it to Lewes Delaware. It’s pronounced like Louis!

Lewes is as old a town you’ll find in the First State. We love the Ferry it shares with Cape May. It’s historic district is a architect’s playpen. Plus you’re close to all the things that everyone loves about Delaware, the beaches, the outlets and my personal fave; Dogfish Head Brewery.
There are new parks along the waterfront, new shops and restaurants geared for kids. It has a cool new drop-in Daycare center we may be trying out in the future,if I can figure out a way to move up there.
The food is great too, especially coming from the Ocean City Maryland area where good bites are hard to find. There are even healthy options although we packed PB and protein bars for our jaunt. We did check out Notting Hilll Coffee and tried some of their good eats. Cheat day.
If you’re heading from the north take the kids on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry, I’m always surprised how may people haven’t. When driving, the traffic is bad on Route 1 during the summer, but ignore the GPS and take the back roads.
I love the area so much I’d be inclined to call it home if we could pick the right neighborhood – walkable, friendly and fun. Anyone know any good gyms in Lewes?
