Getting Stronger and Meeting Goals

March 27, 2014 by Karen Leave a Comment

My return to the gym after having our twins was exciting to say the least. I had to start with new goals and I definitely was not starting with the same body I had before the twins.  I’m elated to share that I was able to not only meet but surpass my own expectations on the bench press this morning.

Hey, where you going with that?

I’m really visual so getting the 45lb weights on each end of the bar (135lbs) was my returning goal. I have done this before the twins and I could do it again. This time however, I had to do it without a spotter. I don’t recommend not having a spotter, it does take much longer to accomplish your goals.  Most goals take longer when going alone.

I had hit 135lbs on the flat bench for months now but not with great form and I could only get about 4 reps. Until this morning when I started with a nice warm up and went right into it with 135lbs on the flatbench. With beautiful form (full range) steady and straight, I pumped out 6 reps with confidence.

I read Winnie the Pooh every night and now I speak in terms using children’s literature. “Slow and steady wins the race Tigger”, said Rabbit waving his finger.  I know this achievement is a result of being able to really tear apart my muscles when my better half was spotting me a week ago. With everything, we get further when we work together.
