Moving Log – Day 153
So here we are. Five months into the journey and I finally told my mother we’re heading to Vermont. She took it well all things considered.
This wannabe sugar-free family is heading to the land where trees sweat maple syrup – Vermont. Not only that, but produces great cheese and the best beer in the land. The perfect location a health focused family right? I’m already planning epic cheat days, Heady Toppers, pumpkin bread french toast, farmhouse cheddar anything and a Ben & Jerry’s tour.
Despite the gluttonous amounts of quality grub it’s one of the nation’s healthiest states and it takes a lot of calories to hike a mountain or even walk one Burlington’s long tall roads. Our target date is just 213 days away; a tall but not very long road.
I’m currently reading The Martian, well listening to it and it reminds me of the daunting task we have in front of us. That one fix is a gateway to another challenge In the book, NASA scientists are set upon tasks that should take months to accomplish, but are giving only weeks. I feel like that’s us. Instead of three years to get everything in order we have 213 days.
We have credit cards and a car to pay off, a move to pay for and we don’t even really know where in the state we’ll be or who we’ll be working for. This is not the first time I’ve done this kind of move but the first time with kids, so the pressure is only matched by our spirit of adventure. We’ve ordered a Subaru so we got that going for us.
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. What you probably want to know is why Vermont. Number one it’s place with quality downtime options. Number two is its commitment to education. As someone who went to private Christian schools because the public equivalent was subpar I know that’s not what I want for my own kids. We’re just lucky that one of our favorite places is one of the best places to raise family and if things go as planned in 213 days we’ll be there.
