93 Days

December 30, 2015 by Chris Leave a Comment

In four months, (93 days to be sure) it’s likely we’ll be living in a new home an eight-hour drive from where we currently reside. It’s exciting to think of all the new places to explore with the family and new career opportunities for Karen and myself.  So many questions remain.  Where will we live?  Will we buy or rent? What will we pack into the moving truck?

So what have we done since last writing about the move?  Almost nothing until last week, when we packed the car and headed up to Burlington for an unseasonably warm weekend, of exploration, weddings and job interviews.

Now, we know a few things. First, a general area we’d like to live.  We know Karen could have some terrific opportunities to further her career. We know that we really want to go. This trip validated everything we already knew, we’re ready.

It would be nice to just pull a Dorothy and click our collective heels and find ourselves setup in our new home. Unfortunately, there are roadblocks, foremost is a house we have in New Jersey that nobody seems to want despite having a tenant and is a stone’s throw from the option.

Moving is another obstacle.  As I see it there are two ways to tackle a move. The first is figure out what you want to bring and find the best way to move it. The second is figure out the size of the container you can afford and get rid of everything that doesn’t fit. The second way is obviously better financially but will call for painful cuts.

It’s about to get really real, really fast.
